The third Indian to lead the soccer team in two Asian Games, goal-machine Chhetri scored the first goal for India in the 85th minute of the game. At the end of the second half, Chhetri successfully converted a penalty corner, making the Indian team beat Bangladesh 1-0. Chhetri’s first goal proved to be the only one in a low-scoring encounter and Stimac’s team secured their first win of the tournament.

Chhetri outplayed goalkeeper Mitul Marma to put up a show for Bangladesh in a thrilling match between the two teams at the Xiaoshan Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou. India were awarded a penalty corner after striker Bryce Miranda was fouled by Bangladesh captain Rahmat Miah. The 1-0 win over Bangladesh allowed the Indian men’s national soccer team to resume their campaign at the Asian Games as the Blue Tigers still keep their chances of reaching the knockout stage of the tournament alive.
Chhetri & Co. to play Myanmar at Asian Games
India have made three changes for their second match at the Asian Games. Gurmeet Singh, suspended in the previous match, replaced Dhiraj Singh. Rohit Danu replaced Rahim Ali and Chingelsena Singh came on in place of Sumit Rathi. Chhetri’s team’s next match will be against Myanmar in the Asian Games. The first thing is to go and recover, it was not easy. I am sure it was the same with the opponents. Three games in five days is not easy, you have to take ice baths, eat well and prepare, Chhetri said after the match.
