Skipper Sunil Chhetri, Anwar Ali, Mahesh Singh and Udanta Singh all scored in the penalty shootout for India.
Lebanon could only score twice, with efforts from Walid Shour and Mohammad Sadek. India goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu saved Hassan Maathouk’s shot and Khalil Bader’s ball went over the crossbar.
Watch the crowd explode at India’s penalty kick, and Gurpreet’s save drew a stunning reaction:
It was India’s second straight win over Lebanon after a 2-0 loss in the recent Intercontinental Cup in Odisha.
Before the drama unfolded, the first half began with Lebanon dominating. The Lebanese were close to taking the lead in the second minute, but Nader Mater shot over the crossbar.
The Indian attacks became more prominent in the second half, but both sides were unable to break the deadlock thanks to excellent defense. In extra time, Chhetri could have scored twice in the 93rd and 95th minutes, but on both occasions the Indian captain failed to hit the target.
In the final game on July 4, the hosts will face Kuwait, which defeated Bangladesh 1-0 in the other semifinal of the day.
India will play in the regional final for the 13th time and ninth consecutive time. They have won eight times in the previous 13 tournaments. The only time India did not finish in the top two was in 2003.
