Unable to play European matches in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion, Shakhtar played their home games in Poland’s capital Warsaw last season.
On Friday, the Ukrainian champion said UEFA had agreed that the team could play in Hamburg, where it is likely to receive support from Ukrainians displaced during the war and living in Germany and elsewhere.
The Volksparkstadion stadium has been home to Hamburger SV, which is a second division team, since 2018. It will also host the European Championships, which will be held in Germany next year.
The stadium has a capacity of 57,000 spectators, including several standing terraces, or 51,500 spectators hosting international matches.
