Lockyer collapsed during the second half of Luton’s match against Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday. The game was abandoned and will be replayed.
It was the second time Lockyer fainted during a match. The other time he collapsed in May during a second-tier Championship playoff final, and he suffered atrial fibrillation then.
Luton said the problem Lockyer faced Saturday was different.
Lockyer underwent a successful procedure Tuesday in which Tom was fitted with an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) to prevent a recurrence of Saturday’s incident, Luton said. 14Luton said his leadership will continue on the field, where his courage will inspire his teammates, colleagues and fans starting Saturday.
